The French newspaper Le Figaro published Sunday the details of the United States peace plan and was presented to the French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves de Drain by US President George W. Bush’s adviser Jared Kouchner.
According to a source who participated in the meeting on December 17, 2017, the plan calls for the recognition of a Palestinian state with Abu Dis as its capital, east of Jerusalem, including the Gaza Strip and 38 percent of the West Bank.
Le Figaro said that French President Emmanuel Macaron wanted to give Trump a chance, pointing out that Macaron sent his deputy diplomatic adviser to Ramallah to know the mood of the Palestinians about the American initiative.
Negotiations between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) will begin on final borders and settlements, as well as the fate of hundreds of cities in Area C, covering the remaining 60 percent of the land.
It should be noted that US President Donald Trump stressed that the issue of Jerusalem will not be put on the agenda of any future peace negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis.
Trump said during his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the sidelines of the Davos World Economic Forum that the US embassy in Jerusalem will open its doors within a year, describing it as “historic and very important.”
